Convert Celsius to Fahrenheit

Celsius (°C)

Definition

Celsius is an SI-derived unit of temperature. It is directly linked to kelvin, with a 1°C change equal to a 1K change. The scale is defined using the Boltzmann constant: 1.380649 × 10⁻²³ J·K⁻¹.

History

Originally, 0°C was the boiling point and 100°C the melting point of snow. This was later inverted. In 1954, Celsius was redefined using absolute zero and the triple point of water. In 2019, it was updated again based on fundamental constants.

Use

Celsius is used worldwide in daily life and science. In the US, it is mainly used in scientific contexts.

Fahrenheit (°F)

Definition

Fahrenheit sets water’s freezing point at 32°F and boiling point at 212°F, with 180 equal intervals between.

History

Created by Daniel Fahrenheit in 1724. Early version set 0°F as a salt-ice mix, 32°F for freezing, and 96°F for body temp. Later adjusted to place boiling at 212°F.

Use

Still used in the US and a few other countries. Most of the world uses Celsius after adopting the metric system.
